High Prairie is a thriving community with a population of 2,600 and a trading area of more than 17,000. The folks of High Prairie enjoy an abundance of outdoor recreational activities including golf, hiking, fishing, dog sledding, and a professional rodeo. The new High Prairie Health Complex includes a continuing care centre, a primary care clinic, and community health services such as home care, mental health, and a new Dialysis Clinic. We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive patient and family centered care to renal patients within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKC-N) Program. You will be provided with thorough training and orientation, including an intensive 4-week Hemodialysis course. As the lead Nurse in charge of the unit, you will demonstrate a professional demeanor, pursue regular development opportunities, and maintain your professional designation. This position is a 3 day week, with no nights and weekends required in the current schedule. It’s a great opportunity for an RN looking to increase their knowledge and make long term connections with our Dialysis clients. This could be the opportunity for you! In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making abilities required. Basic computer skills required. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Must be able to attend Hemodialysis training in Edmonton or Red Deer. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4 week full time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the RN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation – 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 2-day mandatory post- orientation (3Months Post).

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years recent Med-Surgical Nursing experience is preferred Recent acute and chronic Hemodialysis and or nephrology nursing experience is an asset. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated knowledge of case management is an asset.
