Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:The last 8 months effectively providing care in an acute psychiatric or urgent community based mental health service at full-time equivalent hours. If new graduate, must have had preceptorship in relevant Mental Health area immediately prior to 8 months experience being accrued. Basic medical nursing knowledge and skills. Ability to complete complex biopsychosocial assessments, behavioral risk assessments and intervene when necessary to ensure safety of patient, self and others. Knowledge and competence in de-escalating potentially volatile and violent situations safely and respectfully. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in fluent English. Knowledge/Understanding of DSM-V. Working knowledge of what the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone are, and how to utilize them to create a comprehensive discharge plan in consort with the patient within 24hrs. Computer proficiency required. Must meet at least one of the below preferred Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of, or experience in current role, of effectively utilizing Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy training techniques. Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or equivalent experience. Completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training. Experience working with clients with concurrent mental illness and addiction concerns.
