Exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in Correctional Health Services. This opportunity is a temporary full-time nursing position. Come and experience the beautiful northern country in and surrounding Peace River. The area is filled with crystal clear lakes, fresh, crisp forest air, and it holds endless opportunities for wilderness adventures. The community of Peace River is located within the Mighty Peace Country area which is the hub for many exciting seasonal activities, such as fishing, golfing, camping and skiing. The area is also well known for its cultural and heritage offerings found in multiple museums and arts centres. Reporting to the AHS Site Manager, the Correctional Nurse provides comprehensive health services to the adult in custody. Duties include medication administration, ongoing monitoring of patient response to intervention and evaluating progress. Develops, promotes and maintains effective collaborative linkages within the Correctional Institution, the Mental Health system, and community agencies, professionals and para-professionals. Educates clients, staff, agencies and the community as appropriate, regarding the process and function of the unit. Assists in providing in-service education to Correctional Staff. As Mental Health Nurse, performs assessments regarding addictions and mental health issues and refers as appropriate. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Solid clinical assessment and critical thinking skills along with a mature attitude are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with addictions, mental health or Corrections Health Services preferred.
