Your Opportunity:

Generalist Public Health Nurse based in or out of the Public Health office is Alberta Health Services front line representative in delivering public health services in the diverse communities of the North Zone. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team & community stakeholders. The incumbent will: effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care. Provide safe, ethical & patient/family centered health care. Independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative & screening measures, referrals & evaluation as appropriate. Also provides services to individuals, families, groups & communities with attention to diversity & the social determinants of health. Duties include: immunization for all age groups, influenza program delivery, & health promotion initiatives. Communicable Disease Control – outbreak management, notifiable disease follow up. Must be comfortable working with COVID testing & symptomatic clients. Maternal/Infant Health including postpartum support, lactation education, prenatal education, & high risk assessment of mother, babies, & families in the home environment. Travel Health - immunization & travel health counselling. Sexual & Reproductive Health – may be required to provided STI test & treat, Women’s Wellness, contraception support, pregnancy testing & education in schools & communities. Health promotion & injury prevention. Public Health nursing experience including immunization, Healthy Beginnings, & Child Health Clinic preferred. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable & is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions, including winter. Must be comfortable driving in winter conditions. Must be comfortable working with COVID testing and symptomatic clients.
