Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Qualifications:Recent nursing experience in community or hospital maternal/postpartum, newborn assessment & care, or neonatal intensive care, pediatrics or labour and delivery is required.Strong written and verbal communications skills, ability to be self-directed, and to exercise independent nursing judgment required. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and organization skills required. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, Internet access, and health related electronic records required. Knowledge of the social determinants of health (SDOH) and how the SDOH apply to public health nursing process required. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Note: This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Graduation from a recognized nursing education with a Baccalaureate/Bachelor degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is preferred, but other skills and experiences relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing preferred.International Board of Lactation Consultants certification preferred.Recent experience in public health nursing, Healthy Beginnings, Well-Child Clinic.
