Your Opportunity:

The Partner Notification Program (PNN) undertakes investigation and follow-up of confirmed cases of notifiable sexually transmitted infections (STI), and partners/ contacts who may have been exposed to STI, including HIV and Syphilis. The PN Program serves a diverse population and PNNs must be comfortable dealing with sensitive topics regarding all aspects of sexuality and Harm Reduction strategies. PNNs also collaborate with all community health care providers, outreach programs, and Indigenous communities to promote testing and treatment for STIs and a common understanding of the AHS STI program. Understanding the community and surrounding areas within the North Zone will be essential in serving / targeting populations at increased risk for STIs. The Registered Nurse - Partner Notification Nurse, Provincial STI Services functions in an expanded scope of nursing practice under the auspices of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH), contributing to the overall health of the public by providing sexual health related services for the assessment and management of STIs and Outreach Activities. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years within the past five (5) years of public health experience. Computer proficiency with complex programs and databases; documentation is completed in the Electronic Medical Record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Minimum two (2) years within the past four (4) years’ experience in an STI Clinic or Sexual Health setting including Partner Notification, Contact Tracing and Management. Minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years’ experience and knowledge in the case management process of care. Experience in phlebotomy and collection of throat, rectal, and eye swabs. Recent experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of STI’s.
