Your Opportunity:

In this highly diverse and challenging role, the Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external to Alberta Health Services within the Edmonton Zone. The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) Surgical Booking Centre RN is responsible for the coordination, triage, management, and ongoing monitoring of the Operating Room (OR) schedule, ensuring OR time is utilized safely, appropriately, and efficiently. This position works closely with Surgeons, Medical Office Assistants (MOAs), Management, Nursing teams, Pre Admission Clinics, Bed Management/Patient Flow, Surgery Inpatients, and the Extended Day Surgery (23 Hour) Unit. The RN has accountability for overseeing the daily OR slate and schedule, including monitoring booking information, anesthesia requirements and changes, equipment needs, and case time management. The role supports the operational oversight of thirty two (32) operating rooms across four distinct OR areas at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Key responsibilities include monitoring surgical waitlists and supporting general operational processes associated with OR booking, such as ensuring patients are appropriately screened and prepared for surgery prior to their scheduled procedure date. This position is actively involved in program level, departmental, and Edmonton Zone process and quality improvement initiatives, supporting ongoing assurance that booked surgical patients are ready, willing, and able to proceed with surgery as scheduled, while aligning with patient safety, access, and operational efficiency goals.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of three (3) years of recent, related experience within Surgical Services, with exposure to a variety of surgical specialties. Demonstrated proficiency with Connect Care Optime. Demonstrated experience with surgical services scheduling practices across multiple specialties, including but not limited to: General Surgery. Orthopedics. Thoracic. Urology. Plastic Surgery. Bariatrics. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). Otolaryngology (ENT). Ophthalmology. Arthroplasty. Neurosurgery. Spine. Gynecology. Obstetrics. Proficiency with computer systems and applications, including: Connect Care OR Scheduler (Optime). Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams (including file management). Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex, fast paced environment. Demonstrated ability to maintain, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to operating room scheduling and utilization. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely information to diverse stakeholders. Proven ability to provide leadership to administrative teams and facilitate effective communication among Surgeons, Medical Office Assistants (MOAs), Assistant Head Nurses (AHNs), and OR management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Registration must be maintained for the duration of employment Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Current Operating Room (OR) Booking experience. Strong process analysis, problem solving, and decision-making skills, with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve shared goals.
