Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:In depth knowledge of neurosciences and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) required. Minimum 2 years Outpatient Neurology experience required. Minimum 1 year Multiple Sclerosis clinic experience required, within the last 3 years. Minimum 1 year experience working with community nursing groups required. Ability to coordinate ongoing care through collaboration with community agencies, home-care, long-term care, and hospital based services and evaluates the effectiveness of that care by communicating with all members of the health care team. Ability to provide psychosocial support, education and information to patients and their families pertaining to their diagnosis and functional needs. Demonstrated ability to successfully establish relationships with both patients and families and engage them in their care. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and independence of nursing practice in a multidisciplinary team. Patient teaching experience required (both written and verbal). Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means, in a professional and mature manner. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills. Minimum 1 year experience working with each program: SCM Ambulatory, Millennium, Clinibase required. Ability to participate in the Alberta MS Special Therapies program in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team required.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in adult learning and group dynamics preferred. MS Nursing Certification preferred. Experience in Neuroimmunology and Neuromuscular clinics, within the last 3 years, preferred. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered.
