Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our CHOICE team to provide After Hours and On Call support to CHOICE clients and the programs. As a self-directed team member with Continuing Care in the Edmonton zone, the Registered Nurse works collaboratively with the health care team and has responsibilities, including assessment of needs, delivering appropriate therapeutic nursing services within professional practice standards, coordinating resources, establishing goals for client delivery, and evaluating outcomes. In addition, this position provides direct client care that meets established clinical standards, and is evidence based and client centered. In collaboration with family and other partners, the Registered Nurse acts as a consultant on the team providing clinical expertise and direction to other team members regarding client cases, using the appropriate internal and external resources. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for participating in staff development and mentoring student clinical experiences. The RN – After Hours covers from 1600 to 2000 hours Monday to Friday, with on-call from home until 2300 hours. And weekends shifts on Saturday and Sunday from 0800 to 1615 with on-call from home until 2300 hours.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Two years of recent nursing experience (obtained within the last 5 years) or completion of a refresher program within 2 years). Palliative care experience. Previous Continuing Care &/or geriatric experience. 2 years current direct nursing in Continuing Care. Experience doing home visits or working in the community setting. Self-directed & the ability to work independently & use sound professional judgement. Excellent organizational skills – to be able to prioritize & efficiently organize many details in a timely manner. Communication & assessment skills to work cooperatively & effectively with the healthcare team members, clients, & their families in a fast-paced environment. Physically capable of performing nursing tasks which could include transfer of clients. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos &/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings & environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift & carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills & experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Experience with Connect Care & the RAI Home Care assessment tool. At the time of interview, you may be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge & proficiency by completing a hands-on assessment through various computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook & Internet.
