Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The RAH IV Access Team (IVAT) nurse works under the direction of the Program Manager for Professional Practice Office. IVAT nurses specialize in vein assessment, and all aspects of peripherally inserted IV’s. This includes ultrasound guided IV’s, midline catheter insertions . PICC insertations and occlusion management of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs). Due to the nature of the role, the IVAT nurse is involved in advanced assessment and IV triage skills, as well as advanced technical skills. The IVAT nurse promotes excellence in Nursing with advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in vascular access with an emphasis on vein preservation. The IVAT nurse also acts as a clinical resource for nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary health care providers throughout the site.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 - 7 years recent acute care experience required where IV insertions are a part of the job. Experience working independently and ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment required. Demonstrated ability to function autonomously is required. Experience incorporating advanced nursing practice into clinical practice involving patient assessments and triage of referrals required. Attention to detail and demonstrated leadership skills required. Demonstrated ability to function in a multi-disciplinary team environment required. Intermediate computer skills required. Connect Care skills required with the ability to design and use macros and ability to design and use SmartPhrases among other tasks in Connect Care. Demonstrated excellence in organization and interpersonal skills. Ability to push and pull a stretcher and assist with repositioning patients required. Ability to stand for long periods without rest is required. Ability to lean forward and sideways for extended periods of time required. Membership in any of Infusion Nurses Society (INS), Association for Vascular Access (AVA), and Canadian Vascular Access Association (CVAA) desirable. Advanced Clinical Skill for Central Venous Catheters preferred (1. General care and maintenance, 2. Removal, 3. Occlusion, 4. Repair, 5. Insertion) Ultrasound experience preferred. Ability to walk several kilometers a shift throughout the site required, pushing equipment and carts.
