Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will report to the Clinic Manager of the Medical Outpatient Unit (MOU) located at the Walter Mackenzie Health Center and the Adult Day Medicine (ADM) located at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic. The incumbent will be required to work at both locations. The incumbent will be the Nurse Lead for the Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) sub-program who will work collaboratively with the care team and be responsible for triaging, coordination, assessment, planning, implementation, and the evaluation of patient care. The OPAT nurse’s direct patient care will include competency in the following but not limited to: CVAD care/maintenance/blood collections/removal, administration of intravenous therapy, wound care assessment/dressing and evaluation, referral to social work and homecare. The OPAT nurse will also delegate care to other appropriate personnel to maintain the flow of the clinic. The OPAT nurse will assess patient/family education needs and plans, evaluate, and implement education strategies appropriately. The OPAT nurse will also work collaboratively with the rest of the MOU/ADM team in providing care to a variety of patients from different adult specialties requiring IV infusions such as chemotherapy, blood products and the administration of drug therapies through all routes. The clinics are very fast paced with multiple competing demands. The RN must be able to respond to adverse patient events quickly and competently. The RN must be able to stand for long periods, prioritize and work well under pressure and manage time. The OPAT nurse must be able to work independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members and colleagues.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Physical ability to perform CPR on Adult Clients is required. Must be able to lift and carry 10-15 kg regularly. Must be able to participate and perform hands on care of patients (i.e., transfers, bariatric client assistance, bending, twisting stooping) and to fulfill job requirements including but not limited to reaching above shoulders frequently, looking up frequently, long periods of keyboarding, walking long distances, and standing for prolonged periods of time. Minimum of two years recent adult acute care experience in Medicine or Surgery is required.  IV certification and experience, as well as use and care of Central Venous Access Device is required. Connect Care experience is required. Certified in administration of Systemic therapy, completion of OPREP education. Recent (within 2 years) Wound care assessment skills are required. Must have excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in performing therapeutic phlebotomy. Experience in ambulatory infusion clinic. Charge Nurse experience.
