Your Opportunity High River General Hospital supports a busy rural community located just south of Calgary with a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, and Medical Inpatients Unit. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Services department works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patients, families, & community. The RN works to full scope providing a leadership role in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, families & health care team. As a member of the Surgical Services team, the successful candidate will provide patient care in all areas of the Surgery Department including in the OR Theatres, Endoscope, and PACU as well as Day Surgery (Pre- and Post-Operative patient care). The RN must be able to adapt quickly to workloads that change & fluctuate, demonstrate initiative, accountability, critical thinking, and strong clinical skills. The ability to respond to emergent medical and/or surgical situations quickly and appropriately is necessary. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required, as is a commitment to integrating Patient and Family Centered Care principles, professional development/growth & promoting a positive work culture aligning with AHS values. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation. Staff at HRGH receive training to support patients in other departments and may be assigned to other departments. This workplace is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan forgiveness. You may be eligible for the Rural Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program if you meet other eligibility requirements.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of accredited Perioperative Nurse Certification. Maintains ORNAC, NAPCAN, CRNA and AHS Best Practices. Participate in After Hour Call Rotation and able to return to AHS facility within the rural timeframe for response. Demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and maintain a focus on patient-centered care. Be able to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACLS, Accredited Perioperative Anesthesia Certification. Experience supporting Endoscopy, PACU, OBGYN procedures, Day Surgery, Rural Acute Care and/or Rural ER. Charge Nurse and Preceptor Experience. Experience supporting Quality Improvement, Change Management, Best Practice Guidelines and/or Organizational Policy. Demonstrates collaborative care with diverse cultural and marginalized populations or those with socio-economic diversities. NVCI certification.
