Your Opportunity:

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse – NICU is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for NICU patients in a tertiary level unit. The successful candidate performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital/unit specific policies and nursing care standards. The successful candidate will maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers, and be able to independently manage multiple priorities.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to succeed in the fast-paced environment of the DS NICU. The successful candidate will have an active role in facilitating family-centered care.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

One year current Level 3 NICU experience is required. Basic computer literacy, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong Family Centered Care philosophy is required. Successful pass of a Math Calculation Competency Assessment of 90% is required. As a Level 3 and 4 NICU, it is imperative that employees can function fully and independently in casual status. To maintain an active casual status in the DS NICU, casual nurses are expected to meet the following requirements: Maintain current professional registration and all mandatory certifications, including NRP, CPR, required ROLs, and completion of an annual education day. Maintain clinical competency and currency through minimum shift participation. Complete refresher education and/or re‑orientation as required, depending on the duration of time away from the unit or identified learning needs. Maintain availability consistent with operational needs, including routine updates to availability in Workforce Management (WFM).

Preferred Qualifications:

Greater than 2 years of recent NICU experience preferred. May consider applicants with 2+ years current Stollery pediatric experience or 2+ years adult ICU/ER experience. Preference will be given to candidates that have neonatal critical care experience. Must submit a cover letter and resume with application.
