Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The UAH Medicine Relief Team at the University of Alberta Hospital provides relief (float) staff to 13 Medicine units providing care for General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, Nephrology, GI and Hematology patients. The Medicine program is a dynamic and fast paced adult acute care program dedicated to best practice in providing patient and family centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the AHS Values, hospital policies and nursing care standards. Specific Accountabilities: As a member of the collaborative, interdisciplinary team, the RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). This position also involves actively participating in the development and coordination of discharge planning and providing leadership to LPNs and HCAs on the nursing team. The relief (float) RN will go to all medicine units as required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application Must the able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on all medicine units. Must be able to work within posted position rotation and shifts. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs. Basic computer and email skills required. Experience working within an acute care practice setting within the last year required or a recent graduation from a recognized nursing school within the last year. Other key competencies for this role include: Interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Accountability, critical thinking, time management and communication skills. Ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, with initiative and self-direction.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in a casual or float position preferred. Experience working within the CoACT framework preferred. Order Processing and Transcription experience preferred. Charge Nurse experience preferred. IV Certification preferred. Ventilator skills preferred.
