Your Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity exists to develop as a Registered Nurse (RN) and practice to your full scope within a collaborative team on 5 East at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. 5 East is a 36-bed inpatient unit providing care for both medical and surgical patients. In this role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for medical inpatients (typically under the care of a Hospitalist), delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centered care that supports the acute needs of our population. As an RN on 5 East, Medical/Surgical Unit, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals, and support staff, contributing to a unit culture that values respect, teamwork, and professional expertise. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment and critical thinking, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative relationships. You will bring strength in patient advocacy, education, and care coordination, along with effective time management, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills. A commitment to fostering a positive team environment while aligning with the shared vision and values of AHS is essential.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Completion of an accredited Bachelor of Nursing (BN or BScN) program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR-HCP) certification. Recent acute care nursing experience (medical/surgical experience preferred). Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, and evaluation. Proven clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team. Demonstrated organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. Commitment to patient- and family-centered care. Ability to work shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent medical-surgical nursing experience. Experience with acute care documentation systems (Connect Care). Additional certifications (e.g., ACLS, IV therapy, wound care). Experience in patient education and discharge planning.
