Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Hepatitis Support Program (HSP) provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary outpatient care to clients with viral hepatitis. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the RN works collaboratively with Infectious Disease Specialists and allied health professionals. Using the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving, and clinical decision-making skills, the RN manages viral hepatitis intake referrals and provides case management for patients with Hepatitis C. Responsibilities include patient assessment, education, care coordination, and supporting patients with medication access and insurance navigation. The RN supports a high-volume Hepatitis B (HBV) RN clinic through patient assessment, monitoring, education, and follow-up. The RN assists Infectious Disease clinics with patient teaching and FibroScan procedures and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to support treatment, monitoring, and management of patients living with viral hepatitis. The RN participates in care coordination, documentation, and quality improvement activities to support program goals and patient outcomes within the outpatient infectious diseases setting. The RN must be able to work independently within Infectious Disease, HBV RN, and FibroScan clinics while managing multiple priorities. Excellent working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook e-mail and Calendar. A sound working knowledge of electronic medical systems (EMRs) including Connect Care and NetCare is required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple patient caseloads within a busy outpatient clinic environment. The ability to work independently. Strong ability to provide patient education and support individuals living with chronic diseases. Strong organizational and time management skills. 2 years’ experience (obtained within the last 5 years) of recent case management in ambulatory setting or 2-3 years of ICU experience (obtained within the last 5 years). Physical activity is required including frequent reaching, prolonged computer and telephone work, and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the clinical environment. The role involves bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling, including the transfer or transport of patients and equipment. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry 10-15 kg routinely, with occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 kg, and provide hands-on patient care when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Participant in Quality and Process Improvement activities is preferred. Chronic Disease Management experience Courses are assets. Experience with drug insurance applications and processes, medication access programs, and community resources. Experience performing FibroScan.
