Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Vascular Access (VA) Nurse will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. This position is at/or out Royal Alexander Dialysis Unit but will also be required to cover multiple sites with some visits to rural units. Key responsibilities may include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. The VA Nurse is responsible for the coordination of access creation (both vascular and peritoneal), surveillance monitoring to minimize access failure, as well as staff/patient education. The VA Nurse will support clinical competencies, organizational standards/practices/guidelines in collaboration with the leadership team. The VA Nurse collaborates with the heath care team at the unit, department, site, zone and provincial level as necessary. This RN position will also be providing leadership roles within the team (such as but not limited to team meetings, literature review, policy and presentation developments).

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years (0.5 – 1.0 full time equivalency) of recent experience as nurse in Hemodialysis required (within the last 5 years). Time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize competing demands. Leadership skills, including excellent analytical skills, a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and ability to build confidence in others. Effective communicator with strong organization skills and commitment to providing quality services. Knowledge of practice-related education resources to support staff. Demonstrated knowledge of case management. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18 kg).
Preferred Qualifications:Preference for minimum 1 – 2 years as a recent vascular access nurse. Involvement in developing/delivering and implementing educational programs or initiatives an asset. Teaching/facilitation skills to patients/staff utilizing knowledge of adult learning principles. Policy or presentation development skills. Quality or research experience. Connect Care experience an asset.
