Your Opportunity:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will need to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. The Outpatient Diabetes Clinic supports various clients that include diabetes in pregnancy (IGT, GDM, Type 1 & 2), Type 1 & 2 diabetes outside of pregnancy as well as inpatient diabetes patients. You will need to have a working knowledge of the diversity of diabetes and its management strategies, including insulin adjustment. The role involves assessing readiness for change and engaging adult learners to navigate themselves through their chronic disease management and set the patient up for long-term optimization. The nurse networks to support external resources that can promote the patient’s education and management, such as community education sessions.

Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Certified Diabetes Education Certificate or equivalent is required. Current experience with diabetes patients. Experience with Provincial Insulin Adjustment Protocols. Ambulatory care experience required. 3-5 years maternal/fetal experience required. 3-5 years complex/chronic disease patient experience required. Triage and Connect Care experience is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience working with diabetes in an outpatient clinic setting is preferred. Experience in insulin adjustment, diabetic leg/foot assessment, diabetes and associated medication familiarity and Diabetes Canada guideline awareness preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to be flexible in a high-volume clinic are essential. Experience with adult teaching concepts preferred. Experience with case management preferred.
