Your Opportunity:
The Home Nutrition Support Program (HNSP) is an ambulatory clinic at Alberta Children’s Hospital providing tertiary care to pediatric patients receiving enteral nutrition. You will join a team of Registered Nurses, a physician lead, and administrative support. Working with inpatient and ambulatory teams you will provide outpatient care for a medically complex patient population. Responsibilities include coordination of non-clinical supports (formula, feeding supplies, equipment), caregiver education through individual and group teaching, and ongoing clinical follow-up of enterally fed patients. You will practice in accordance with professional standards and best practice guidelines. The role requires proficiency in communication, decision-making, organization, accountability, conflict resolution, and management of complex clinical and interpersonal situations. This position involves desk and computer work, including urgent and unscheduled phone encounters, as well as physical demands such as prolonged standing, handling supplies and equipment, and performing enteral tube insertions. The role requires independent practice and frequent reprioritization within a fast-paced, highly visible ambulatory service. The HNSP operates in a high-volume environment with significant clinical and relational complexity, including regular management of concerns and escalations. Nurses in this role are accountable for timely clinical decision-making and coordination of care. This is a highly specialized area of practice requiring an RN with established training and expertise, strong professional knowledge, interprofessional competencies, and advanced clinical judgment. The successful candidate must meet all qualifications at the time of hire and be prepared to assume full responsibility for an assigned caseload upon appointment.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Several years of recent pediatric nursing experience in acute and ambulatory settings with medically complex children. Extensive expertise in enteral feeding tube care and management in accordance with provincial PEAS guidelines and best practices. Experience providing patient and caregiver education, including 1:1 and group teaching. Demonstrated professional communication with a focus on family-centred care. Advanced critical thinking, clinical judgment, and priority management in fast-paced environments. Experience coordinating non-clinical services, including working with vendors and Contracting, Procurement, and Supply Management (CPMS) for patient formula, feeding supplies, and equipment. Experience leading quality improvement initiatives. Strong computer skills, including Connect Care, Netcare, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of community resources supporting vulnerable pediatric populations. Demonstrated integrity, emotional resilience, and intrinsic motivation. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, squat, bend, raise arms above shoulder height, and perform prolonged computer and telephone work.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor level degree in nursing preferred. Recent experience with ACH HNSP would be an asset.
