Your Opportunity:
Working with surgery patients during the post-anesthetic phase, the incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude. Excellent communication, teaching, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are required. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the incumbent must have the ability to recognize and assist with management of post anesthesia/surgical problems. The Post Anesthetic Care Float Pool RN provides post-anesthesia care to high acuity pediatric and adult patients who have undergone a variety of major surgeries including General, Neuro, Orthopedic, Trauma, Plastic, Oral-Maxillofacial, Urology, Thoracic, ophthalmic, ENT, and gynecologic surgery as elective and emergency cases in the DTC, ATC, OSC and Lois Hole Surgical Suites on the Royal Alexandra Campus. The Post Anesthetic Care Unit also cares for ICU post-operative patients when necessary.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 - 3 years recent experience in a high acuity PACU required. Adult ICU or Critical Care experience within the past 5 years. Demonstrated leadership ability and communication skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Computer skills including experience in electronic charting & Microsoft Outlook. A current resume is required.
Preferred Qualifications:ACLS training. PALS training. Connect Care PACU training. Extubation experience. Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook Email. Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) certification for Peri-Anesthesia Nursing.
