Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The RN is responsible for assessing, triaging, teaching, and follow-up required for pediatric patients and their families that are discharged home to the Stollery Pediatric Home Nutrition Support Program (PHNSP). The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care, developing and maintaining care plans, assisting with clinical procedures as required, providing education and empowering patients and families to manage their nutritional needs. The RN is expected to provide ongoing support for patients and families through telephone triage, interpretation of lab results, timely communication with care providers, physicians, research coordinators, families and the patient. This position acts as a resource for health care personnel for Northern Alberta Health Regions, Liaises with Home Care and Community teams within the Northern Alberta Health Regions to coordinate care of the patients. The PHNSP program consists of a strong multi-disciplinary team that focuses on quality improvement and providing the best care possible for their patients. The RN plays a critical role in improving care and treatments for patients through health promotion and best practice initiatives. Participation in education presentations, conferences and quality improvement projects are an expectation of this position. The Registered nurse is expected to provide safe and ethical care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing care standards. A Family Centered approach to providing patient and family care is required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of a recognized professional nursing program and Baccalaureate degree required. The incumbent is responsible for providing proof of active registration with the College and association (CRNA) and BCL-HCP provider and to be maintained throughout the duration of employment is required. PEARS required. A minimum of 2 years’ recent Pediatric Ambulatory experience required. Must have 3 years of recent experience in Pediatric Acute Care or Pediatric Critical care with demonstrated effectiveness in interacting with children and families in the clinical setting is required. Knowledge and experience in the use and management of various enteral feeding tubes and devices is required. Must be able to integrate theory, practice, and research within the clinical setting. Experience in development of education material is required. Must have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced ambulatory department within a family-centered care model. Effective teaching, organizational, critical thinking, problem solving, and program planning skills are required. Telephone assessment and triage experience required. Experience with Connect Care, Netcare and up to date computer skills are required. Must successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam done at the time of the interview with 90% or more. Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. or more and be able to stand for long periods of time.
