Your Opportunity:
The Stollery Children’s hospital provides specialized surgical services to patients and their families from central and northern Alberta, as well as across western Canada. Between the Short Stay Surgery Unit and the Trauma and Inpatient Surgery unit, up to 10,000 surgeries are performed every year. The team on 4D2/D3 works collaboratively with all areas of the Stollery Children’s Hospital to ensure the provision of the highest quality patient care and to support the professional growth and development of our staff. The Registered Nurse (RN) will report to the Unit Manager and as such will be an integral member of Stollery's multidisciplinary team. The RN will be trained to support other departments within the Stollery Children’s Hospital including Other inpatient units (4C2/C3, 4E3,4E4 and 5G4) as well as the ENT, Ophthalmology and Surgery Clinics. Cross-training will take place over time, as a gradual capacity-building measure within the Unit. The RN's professional development will occur under the support and guidance of the leadership team. As a member of the multidisciplinary team caring for children, the Registered Nurse provides leadership in Nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care following both the UAH and Stollery Children's Hospital policies and procedures. The Registered Nurse will provide direct care and support to pediatric patients, their families and, caregivers while recognizing the value of and working within a family-centered Care philosophy. Decisions are made in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 2 years experience (within the last 5 years) in pediatric in-patient trauma surgery or medicine. Strong organizational and assessment skills are required with the ability to communicate findings concisely and accurately. Must also demonstrate strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills with the capability of adapting to a fast-paced outpatient environment as well as an acute inpatient surgical environment. Proven reliability and dependability. Must be able to perform full duties with the ability to work with patients of varying mobility.
Preferred Qualifications:Completed the Level 4 and Charge Nurse Training preferred. Complete the Stollery Pediatric Orientation program and pass the following: PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization course) and the Stollery Medication Administration Exam with 90%
