Your Opportunity:

A Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care in a critical and highly specialized area. The registered nurse demonstrates a professional and caring approach to patients and families using the primary/team nursing model. The PACU nurse has strong organizational and prioritization skills, functions autonomously in the PACU setting acts as the primary care provider for patients; uses technical skills and clinical judgment in the delivery of professional nursing care to patients. The PACU nurse participates in collaborative practice with other members of the Multidisciplinary Health Care Team.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years of recent Adult Surgical Nursing experience in acute care/tertiary surgical unit required (Recent refers to experience in last 2 years) such as ICU, Oral Max, Trauma, General Surgery, Vascular and/or Orthopedic experience. Basic computer skills are required. Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to stand for long periods at patient’s bedside required. Basic APS (Acute Pain Service course) and experience with PCA, PCEA pumps required. Ability to move/reposition unresponsive patients in order to protect airways required. Ability to lift greater than 50 lbs repetitively on a regular basis required. On call required.

Preferred Qualifications:

PACU Course preferred however, recent Adult PACU experience preferred. ACLS Highly recommended. 2 years of PACU/Acute Care/Cardiac Monitoring preferred (Inpatient Surgery, Acute Care Site). Proven ability to apply critical analysis in a critical environment that is evolving constantly. Proven ability to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment and at times stressful environment.
