Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Active or Eligible Registration with College or Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Minimum of two years of recent experience in a general mental health inpatient or related setting. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organization skills and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health decompensation. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medication. Nursing practicum at forensics will be considered in the absence of recent mental health inpatient experience. Knowledge of Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) legislation and Criminal Code Review Board.
Preferred Qualifications:Within 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. A minimum 1-year of recent experience in a forensic mental health setting.
