Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 recent years’ experience in Systemic Therapy, including experience in the clinical trials pod. Proficient use of Connect Care, understanding treatment, therapy plans and a knowledge of utilizing reports. Knowledge of tumor group specific, complex, and research protocols. Must be able to work in a Systemic Therapy assignment which includes: Safe delivery of chemotherapy and other supportive measures; assisting with medical procedures; assessment of the patient and review all relevant investigations; evaluation, communication, and documentation of outcomes of nursing interventions on an electronic medical record; recognizes situations of priority and emergency including those unique to cancer therapies and oncologic emergencies; prioritizes appropriately to ensure that emergency situations are dealt with quickly and efficiently; discharging of patients; care of central lines, IVAD's, and PICC's. Excellent IV skills. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated assessment and critical thinking skills are essential. Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced work environment, withstand physical demands of lifting, pulling, pushing, transferring and transporting patients, and standing for long periods of time. Continuing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation of education programs, research, and quality assurance activities.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is preferred. OPREP Courses: Foundations 1 & 2, Alberta Systemic Therapy, Alberta Standardized Chemotherapy & Biotherapy, and Alberta Chemotherapy Competency Maintenance.
