Located on the 10th floor of the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), the unit offers unobstructed views of downtown Calgary. Unit 101 is a busy 20 bed acute pre and post-op spinal care unit. We are a one-of-a-kind unit within Alberta Health Services that provides specialized care that includes the management of acute spinal cord injuries and other neurological issues. The Spine RN works to full scope, providing specialized nursing care for patients and families with the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health and preventing illness, injury and disability. The RN works alongside other nursing disciplines such as Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Clinicians, Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides. A strong commitment to teamwork is reflected in our daily practice which relies on excellent inter-professional communication. The RN is responsible for collaborating care with many other disciplines, including physicians, OT, PT, TS and SW as part of the comprehensive multidisciplinary team. The Spine Unit is fast paced, physically challenging and emotionally rewarding because of the complex spinal patient population. For our new graduate applicants, we offer a comprehensive orientation and mentoring program. The FMC campus provides multiple amenities encouraging staff wellbeing. Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:As required.
Preferred Qualifications:One to two years’ experience in an acute post-operative / surgical setting. Previous spine nursing experience. Previous neuroscience nursing experience. CNA Neurosciences Certification. Previous experience orientating new staff or preceptoring students. Charge experience.
