If you are a Registered Nurse looking to apply your teamwork skills and work in a dynamic fast-paced environment, then Unit 2A5/2A6 at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (Maz) is the place for you! Unit 2A5/2A6 specializes in invasive cardiac care that consists of 3 Cardiac Catheterization Labs, 3 Electrophysiology Labs and a 24 bed Cardiac Sciences Holding and Recovery (CSHR). Our program works closely with other teams to support procedures for the adult congenital program, pediatric program and TAVI program. In addition, our CSHR area supports patient flow throughout the Maz and diagnostic tests that may require procedural sedation. As a member of the team, RNs deliver comprehensive and care to patients in relation to cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology procedures. Tasks during these cases may include scrubbing for procedures, hemodynamic and electrophysiologic monitoring, completing of nursing documentation and administering of drugs/contrast. Cross training to work in different areas of Unit 2A5/2A6 (Electrophysiology/Recovery or Cardiac Catheterization Lab/Recovery) would occur. On call for emergency after-hours cases may be required based on the area you are crossed trained.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:2 years recent critical care experience and/or Emergency Room experience with trauma training. Candidates without previous Adult ICU/ ER experience may be considered for the AHS Critical Care Orientation Program (OPACCA), a theory training and orientation program facilitated via online classes, followed by unit buddy shifts with clinical instructor supervision. Candidate must achieve a minimum grade of 75% on theory to continue to the clinical assessment. Candidates without OPACCCA must have a minimum of 2 years Nursing Experience in an acute care setting to be considered. Must demonstrate excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, communication, problem solving, conflict management organization, and patient care skills. Must be able to wear a lead apron. Must be physically able to transport patients and equipment. Long periods of standing or walking may be required. Preferred Qualifications:Active ACLS or PALS certification. Experience with procedural sedation. Experience with Connect Care (EPIC) preferred. Level 2 Cardiac Sciences Competencies preferred or minimum 2 years of cardiology. Previous Cardiac Catheterization Lab and/or Electrophysiology Lab or cardiology experience is preferred. Applicants whose critical care experience is greater than 2 years old will be required to complete the critical care challenge process.
