Your Opportunity:

Henwood Treatment Centre is a 62-bed live-in treatment centre for those experiencing a substance use concern or a co-occurring substance use and mental health concern. We are seeking an experienced, caring, strength-based professional to complement our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate for this Registered Nurse position will make decisions as to appropriate nursing interventions within the RN scope of practice to meet patient population needs. Their purpose will be to provide direct, low-barrier, trauma-informed nursing care to individuals living with physical and mental health needs, substance use disorder(s), and/or facing structural barriers to care (e.g., poverty, homelessness). As such, they should have working knowledge of and experience in the identification and management of complex addiction, mental illness, and chronic disease. They may provide health care services including, but not limited to, physical, psychosocial and substance use assessment; medication administration; overdose prevention (e.g. Naloxone education) and response. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of client-specific care plans and share evidence-based and best practices from a nursing perspective to develop holistic and culturally appropriate services to address clients' complex needs. They will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with individuals who have substance use and mental health concerns. They will demonstrate an ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others; and is sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences. Please Note: Henwood is located in Northeast Edmonton and public transportation to the facility is limited.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Standard or Supplementary First Aid. Current suicide intervention training. Non-violent Crisis Intervention. Recent nursing experience supporting individuals impacted by substance use and mental health concerns. Knowledge of trauma-informed, recovery focused principles as a compliment to strong knowledge of the addictions process required. Physical requirements of the position include the ability to sit/stand and walk through a large Centre as well as use stairs; there is no elevator access. It is also a requirement that the incumbent be physically able to respond to behavioral/clinical emergency situations; which may occur anywhere in the building. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with live-in treatment is an asset. Experience in the inner-city is an asset.
