Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Performing duties that will support Communicable Disease Control, Immunization and Maternal/Infant Health. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking and decision making skills. Public Health Nursing (PHN) requires individuals to conduct work both in a clinic setting as well as community/outreach settings including in homes of clients or off-site locations. The PHN is required to work independently in clinic, community/outreach locations or on-call. External environmental considerations would impact working conditions. PHN are required to perform physical duties that will include: gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions while providing client care. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies weighing up to and including 50 pounds, to various work sites. Service delivery will require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Must be comfortable to drive-in all-weather conditions rurally.

Preferred Qualifications:

Min 5 years' experience working as a Public Health Nurse. Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Other experience related to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Desirable recent nursing experience includes CDC, maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment, working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.
