Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, Immunization, is preferred. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking and decision making skills. Public Health Nursing (PHN) requires individuals to conduct work both in a clinic setting as well as community settings including in homes of clients. External environmental considerations would impact working conditions. PHN are required to perform physical duties including: gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Comfortable to drive in all weather conditions urban and rural.

Preferred Qualifications:

Min. 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a PHN unit. Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Recent nursing experience includes CDC, maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment, working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.
