We have a robust multidisciplinary team that all contribute their specialty and expertise towards the rapid stabilization of individuals suffering from mental health disorders. This position is a regularized relief float position where you would be working and covering for two units. You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At ACH you would be covering for the Psychiatric Emergency Service or for the Mental Health Patient Care Unit. ACH mental health services see youth up to age 18, but the focus of admitted patients is those age 12 and under. Clinical practice is guided by Collaborative Problem Solving, Attachment Theory, and Trauma Informed care. At ACH you would be covering for Mental Health Patient Care unit and Psychiatric Emergency Services. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

4 months of Addiction and Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience within the last 3 years. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in Addictions and Mental Health (AMH) you get the opportunity to learn about complex mental health disorders that are present in all areas of health care facilities. It is rewarding being part of supporting various individuals to stabilize psychiatrically and assist them with the skills required to reintegrate back into the community.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques preferred. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk.
