Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Public Health Nurses are required to perform physical duties including, gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Possession of a valid driver’s license, business insurance, and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related travel is required. The PHN is comfortable to drive in all weather conditions, both within urban and rural areas. Working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, email, electronic charting, internet access, and data entry required. Knowledge of Meditech, Care Manager, CMPH Public Health processes is preferred. Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational, problem solving, and counseling skills. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Minimum 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, immunization, Healthy Beginnings, and Child Health Clinic Is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Other recent nursing experience including: pre-natal, labor and delivery, postpartum, or working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset. Ability to work in a fast paced, independent and changing environment. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic environment.
