Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Other relevant skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Other desirable recent nursing experience includes maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment. Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational, problem solving, and counseling skills. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic environment. Ability to work in a fast paced, independent and changing environment. Public Health Nursing (PHN) requires individuals to conduct work both in a clinic setting as well as community settings including in homes of clients. Possession of a valid driver’s license, business insurance, and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree is preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a public health nursing unit performing duties supporting: Communicable Disease Control, immunization, Healthy Beginnings, & Child Health Clinic is preferred. Other recent nursing experience including: pre-natal, labor and delivery, postpartum, or working with young families or pediatric population is as asset. Breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, & childbirth education are an asset.
