Your Opportunity:

Hanna Health Centre is recruiting for regular full-time or regular part- time positions pursuant to the Transitional Graduate Nurse Recruitment Program (TGNRP) provisions and are open to those who have or will graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing within the 12 months prior to commencement of the TGNRP and who have not already obtained a regular full-time or regular part-time position with AHS. The Transitional Graduate Nurse (TGN) is accountable to the public for his/her own practice, which is monitored and regulated by the Province of Alberta Health Professions Act (HPA). The Registered Nurse – Transitional Grade Nurse is responsible for ensuring that their practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards of CARNA and the code of ethics (Canadian Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics, 2002). The TGN is guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, Alberta Health Services job description and will be mentored by the clinical guide (RN, RPN, Clinical Educator or Clinical Supervisor) to support their employment transition and learning opportunities. These positions are supernumerary in nature until such time as the TGN is determined to be ready to independently assume the full scope of RN or RPN practice or to a maximum duration of 9 months. The TGN will be required to apply for available vacancy positions of no less than .5 FTE and may work as relief once they are determined to be ready to practice independently. Hours of work may be 7.75 or 11.08 hours depending on unit rotation. A variety of shift patterns are available.


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing between March 1-2017 and March 31st- 2018 from an approved school of nursing. Intended for new (within the past year) nursing graduates and is not open to individuals with previous nursing experience who have completed programs such as the Bridge to Canadian Nursing Program or the nursing refresher program following an absence of five years or more, or a more advanced nursing degree. Not currently in a regular full-time or regular part-time position with AHS.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current certification in Emergency Nurses Paediatric Course (ENCP). Current certification in Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Advanced Critical Care Nursing (ACCN) certification.
