Your Opportunity:

This Full Time Recreation Therapist II position is based out of the Peace River Community Health Centre in Peace River and is responsible for the Recreation Therapy program for long term care residents in Peace River, AB and Grimshaw, AB. In the role of Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of individual and group social, leisure and respite activities in long term care in both Peace River and Grimshaw. This will include assessment and development of individual therapy plans. You will be expected to communicate and collaborate with the residents, families and interdisciplinary team regarding the care, opportunities and therapeutic recreation programming provided within the facility. Duties include program planning and implementation, program organization, and support of daily activities. This role also includes the supervision and support of recreation therapy assistants. The town of Peace River is located in the beautiful Peace River valley in northwestern Alberta. Peace River is a community of approximately 7000 people and is a regional center for a much larger rural area. Residents enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational activities including golfing, hockey, skiing, camping and swimming, just to name a few. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
