Your Opportunity:

This Permanent Part Time Recreation Therapist II position is based out of Mackenzie House and is responsible for the Recreation Therapy program in the continuing care facility. This includes the supervision and support of a recreation therapy assistant and is an opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team as you provide therapeutic support to the residents of Mackenzie House. The town of High Level is located in the scenic northwestern reaches of Alberta. Residents enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor recreational activities including fishing, golfing, hockey, hunting, camping and swimming, just to name a few. With a population of approximately 3,900 and serving a trade area of 26,000, High Level offers a bustling economy with the local service area committed to ensuring their residents have access to optimal healthcare. Northern Allowance: In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Travel Expense Reimbursement: Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
