Recreation Therapist I

The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm and vibrant workplace, with team members providing service to children and their families in inpatient units and ambulatory clinics. The Recreation Therapist (RT) I, is part of ACH site-wide RT Services, and ensures the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. Completing assessment, treatment, education and provide clinical support and consultation. Collaboration and communication with the health care team and participation in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the patient and family. This position will provide support to subacute populations with complex medical profiles across the site including ambulatory and/or inpatients and other areas and populations based on identified need within the site. The caseload includes infants, children and youth, aged 0-18 years. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills including analytical thinking and conflict resolution; will be organized in managing a complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative and adaptability to meet varying clinical and operational needs; and will demonstrate effective interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Participation on program/clinic committees is expected. You will receive guidance, mentoring, and leadership appropriate to your level of experience. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Experience working as a Recreation Therapist. Experience within the past year working in pediatric population, ages 0-18years. Demonstrated skills in utilizing adapted physical activity as part of treatment plan. Experience planning and facilitating therapeutic group programs. Demonstrated ability to teach and deliver education material to families in an engaging and meaningful way. Demonstrated ability to function independently and within an interdisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated understanding of a Family Centered Care service delivery model. Level C Basic Life Support (CPR).
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with community partners providing services to children with special needs. National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification is an asset. Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association membership. Volunteer training and supervision experience beneficial.
