Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager for Adult Day Programs, the Recreation Therapist develops and coordinates the day-to-day recreation therapy activities of the assigned Adult Day Programs. The Recreational Therapist is a member of the Specialty Program multidisciplinary team and provides clinical support and direction to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides, Healthcare Aides, Volunteers, students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The main focus of work is to ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice in the assigned day program area(s) is evidence based, client and family centered and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. Within this role the therapist completes client’s assessment and, collaborates with the team on development of recreational programming to meet client’s assessed needs. The Recreation Therapist is accountable to maintain timely documentation to support delivery of therapeutic recreation services, including client charting in accordance with professional standards of practice, and AHS format and guidelines.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Degree in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies or Recreation Administration is required. Active registration with ATRA/CTRA (Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association/Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association) is required. BCLS-HCP is required. Demonstrated expertise in geriatric care required. Strong interpersonal skills and organizational and prioritizing abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years current practice with one year in a community-based setting preferred. Knowledge of active living and calendar event planning in related community dwelling seniors. Knowledge of day programs and other community resources an asset. Computer program proficiency (eg: Word, Excel, Outlook). Proficiency in Connect Care.
