Your Opportunity:

This Psychologist ll – Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program position reports to an Allied Health Manager at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. Working with variety of patient populations, including but not limited to those with acquired brain injury, stroke, and various neurological conditions. Duties will involve the provision of comprehensive neuropsychological assessment (interviews, obtaining information from collateral sources, selecting and interpreting neuropsychological measures, report-writing, feedback), often within the framework of a multidisciplinary team. Other responsibilities include consultation with family members, and other service providers as well as the development of transition plans and provision of information about specialized community resources. Working with psychometrists is expected. Provision of consultation or education to community partners as well as participating in quality improvement programs and educational initiatives, conducting, or facilitating research, and participating in hospital-wide groups or special projects may also be components of the position. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Psychologist II, you will provide advanced clinical services (including psychological assessment, diagnosis and/or intervention), consultation and education to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and/or provides clinical leadership and coordination in an assigned program area. This is an advanced level psychology position that will allow you to work with or within teams to provide and inform services for patients with complex and multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental and/or instrumental needs. You will consult, collaborate, and enact initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence based and in alignment with psychology standards of practice and code of ethics, as well as policy, legislation and regulations. You will be expected to lead, facilitate and/or participate in program, policy, and procedure development, service planning, staff development, quality improvement and evaluation, and/or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s). You may provide supervision to doctoral level psychology residents, master's level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists and other team members.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of doctoral degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) program. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication, documentation skills and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member required. Ability to frequently perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and the ability to frequently concentrate on precise detailed work is essential. Proficiency with comprehensive assessments as well as individual therapy. Demonstrated ability to manage a case list and work within tight timeframes. You are physically capable of carrying out the duties of this position as you may be required to transfer, reposition and mobilize patients as well as manage behavioral problems resulting from the brain injury. Experience in performing psychological assessments, as well as knowledge of administration and interpretation of a variety of standardized cognitive assessment instruments is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a registered psychologist working in a rehabilitation setting. Greater than six months experience in working in neurology with stroke and brain injured patients is desired.
