If you are a Registered Psychologist who loves working with children and adolescents, this position on Unit 39, Red Deer Regional Hospital and the PChAD Safe House might be just what you’re looking for! Child and Adolescent, Community Addiction and Mental Health program in Red Deer provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment services to children, adolescents and their families when the child or adolescent is in crisis. In addition this position will provide support to the Protection of Children Abusing Drugs (PChAD) Safe House. To be successful in this position you must have extensive experience working with children and adolescent populations, knowledge and experience in formal psychological assessment and treatment approaches to childhood diagnoses. You must be an active and supportive team member, highly motivated, have excellent communication, organization and report writing skills, and the ability to work independently. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry Community Addiction and Mental Health or designate, the Psychologist I - Child & Adolescent will work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing psychological services during hospitalization of children experiencing serious emotional, psychological, behavioral and/or psychiatric illness. Psychological services will include formal assessment, consultation, treatment/psychotherapy, and treatment planning. Red Deer is located in Central Alberta near the midpoint of the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. It is Alberta's third-most-populous city – after Calgary and Edmonton with just over 100,000 citizens. Red Deer has plenty of education options, as well as multi-use recreational centres and golf courses. As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include: psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as education activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practice and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consults/collaborates with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master level degree in Education Psychology or equivalent. At least 2 years’ experience in performing psychological assessments, as well as knowledge of administration and interpretation of a variety of standardized cognitive and personality assessment instruments is essential. At least 3 years’ experience working with the child and adolescent population within a mental health setting. Current BCLS-HCP certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with different treatment modalities, groups, individual, and couple/family therapy as well as behavior management techniques is desirable.
