Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you are a person who: Has strong verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required) that supports verbal messages being received and understood. Active listening skills. Congruent non-verbal communication skills. Has the ability to establish and maintain relationships built on mutual respect, appropriate sensitivity and transparency, empathy and compassion with patients & families, colleagues, professional and medical staff. Has sound self-management skills – being able to manage own emotions and strong feelings; maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances and think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Works cooperatively and productively with others. Enhance, support, empower and otherwise increase patient engagement in treatment and change. Has demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks. Has an excellent attendance record. Has completed Mental Health First Aid training. Has current BLS certification via Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Have some post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services. Have a Personal Support Aide, Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate (equivalencies may be considered). Have 2 years’ experience working with persons with an addiction and/or mental health issue – preferably in a hospital setting. Computer skills (Connect Care).
