Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC), located in downtown Calgary, is a 24/7 urgent care and community health hub serving non life threatening injuries and illnesses year round. The site offers a wide range of services, including urgent care, mental health and addiction support, sexual and reproductive health and, laboratory services. As a high volume, diverse service environment, the Chumir plays a critical role in supporting community health and safety. SMCHC is home to several specialized programs, including addiction and mental health services, the AHS ID Program, Elbow River Healing Lodge, and the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team. As services continue to evolve, staff play a key role in supporting patients through changing care models and connecting them to appropriate resources. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast paced, highly dynamic environment where adaptability and professionalism are essential. You will manage situations involving conflict, emotional distress, and unpredictable behaviour while maintaining a calm, professional presence, contributing to a safe, respectful, and compassionate space for patients, staff, and visitors—many of whom may be experiencing complex health and social challenges. Description:
As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Emergency First Aid and CPR.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services.
