Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC) is located in downtown Calgary and has a focus as a university teaching clinic supporting our vulnerable populations. The SMCHC is a primary healthcare facility with urgent care, outpatient care and Safe Consumption/Opioid Poisoning Prevention Services. A harm reduction approach to substance use accepts that abstinence may not be a realistic or desirable goal for an individual client. Staff shall be mindful that barriers to participation can be real or perceived and shall work to reduce those barriers as much as possible. The SMCHC also houses a variety of community programs such as the AHS ID program, Addiction & Mental Health Clinics, Elbow River Healing Lodge, and the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team. Description:
As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.
Additional Required Qualifications:To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered, please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Alberta Class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. Current Standard First Aid and CPR.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
