Your Opportunity:

Renfrew Recovery Centre is an inpatient facility within Recovery Alberta, dedicated to providing medically supervised detoxification and stabilization services for individuals withdrawing from alcohol, drugs, and gambling. The Centre offers a safe, structured, and supportive environment designed to facilitate recovery while ensuring the safety of patients and staff. With capacity for up to 40 patients, Renfrew Recovery operates 24/7 and plays a critical role in the continuum of care. Protective Services personnel are integral to maintaining a secure and therapeutic setting, supporting clinical operations through risk mitigation, incident response, and adherence to safety protocols. The Centre’s focus on short-term stabilization requires a dynamic and responsive security presence that prioritizes compassion, discretion, and professionalism. Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Emergency First Aid and CPR. At least 2 years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
