Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking Casual Protective Services Officers (PSO) II, within the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH). The MHRH is located approximately 169km east of Lethbridge and 295 kms SE of Calgary. You will be responsible for wayfinding, providing customer services to patients, visitors, & stakeholders, as well as general support. You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills to promote collaboration, respect, and mitigate high-stress situations. Your compassion and ability to relate to patients, visitors, and communities help de-escalate conflict and create a positive, safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for all. As a PSO, you will be a first responder to critical events within a team environment, while managing your time and setting priorities. You will be covering for Core PSOs, Community and Rural mobile PSOs. Documentation and reporting are a key part of this role. You will utilize the Perspective Reporting system to prepare detailed, written documentation of all security and life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking., sound judgement, discretion, and de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of Legislation, policy and legal authorities is a necessary skill for an AHS PSO.

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The candidate must prove that they have successfully completed a PARE Fitness test in under 4 minutes 45 seconds. The PARE must be successfully completed within 6 months as of June 6, 2025, and submitted to the interview team, no later than April 17, 2025. The Candidate must also have a valid Current First Aid and CPR Level C – AED certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to the candidates with two years’ post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. Preference will also be given to those candidates who have two years’ security/law enforcement experience. CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention training, Pressure Point Control Tactic Certificates and experience within a healthcare setting are also assets.
