Your Opportunity:

The Project Coordinator role is key in supporting the Project Manager on IT Technology projects. As such, they have a broad range of administrative support duties that contribute to the success of their project manager, project teams or program initiatives. Some of the work may include managing and manipulating project information stores or coordinating project activities. The Project Coordinator works within the plans, timelines and budgetary restrictions in accordance with Alberta Health Services’ standards and practices. The Project Coordinator position is an entry level role for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in project coordination or ultimately in project management. The individual should have working knowledge of project management practices including project life cycles, project plans, financial tracking, and some exposure to technology infrastructure. They need the understanding and ability to track a project for scope, timeline, and budgets, using tools and standards as set out by the AHS PMO. Ideally, they would have strong procurement skills, having worked with CPSM, as they will be responsible for procuring IT hardware and software, tracking those requisitions, purchase orders, and reporting financially each month. They may also have responsibility over contracts and dealing directly with vendors. Most individuals who pursue this position, look to proceed with a career in project management.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 to 3 years of related working experience or a combination of education and experience appropriate to the position. An organized self-starter that can apply critical thinking skills to solve problems while managing large volumes of information following some standardized processes. Has a strong working knowledge of the MS Office suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Project, Visio, Excel and SharePoint. Has a good working knowledge of project management principles, tools and methodologies. The ability to thrive while working collaboratively within a team and sometimes with minimal supervision. Uses strong written and oral communication skills to negotiate and manage conflict when needed. Have the ability to sit/stand for extended periods and tolerate extended computer time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years of experience directly supporting project management activities with a working knowledge of PPM is preferred. Experience working in a virtual cross functional team is preferred. Knowledge and/or experience in information technology infrastructure and healthcare is considered an asset. Demonstrates a clear pattern of professional and personal development.
