Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager of the South Zone Medical Affairs Department, this role will support SZMA team to improve the quality of the SZMA services through enabling effective communication and engagement with all our partners in SZMA; supporting our Medical Leaders with timely and accurate reporting to enable informed decision making; ensuring strategic alignment of SZMA program work with internal and external partners; and improving the quality of our processes and tools that support the compliance with the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Regulations. All Non-Union Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.


As a key member of the SZMA department, the project coordinator will be responsible for supporting a broad range of planning, coordination, and project management activities associated with achieving the priorities and specific deliverables within the functional area. This will include creating linkages with similar planning and coordination roles within the broader provincial Medical Affairs Program to ensure good integration of work. The project coordinator will also gather evidence, undertake environmental scans, collect and synthesize data as it relates to specific projects and initiatives to support the development of recommendations. Project planning and management skills and methodology will be utilized to ensure a systematic approach to achieving results. This will also encompass the preparation of reports on progress against objectives. The incumbent must acquire a thorough knowledge of AHS, the various SZMA activities and their relevant deadlines, policies and processes. Project assignments for this position are often complex in nature where considerable independent judgement, tact, creativity and initiative are required in resolving issues.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or other equivalent formal education. Experience in supporting a variety of activities related to operational and/or strategic health service planning. Knowledge and experience in the application of project management principles and techniques to include planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation. Excellent computer skills including expert user knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access database queries and reporting. Ability to develop and facilitate presentations to convey information or transfer knowledge. Ability to search out and evaluate up to date evidence. Communication skills and ability to create and foster strong partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong writing skills and ability to summarize literature or data in a relevant and meaningful way. Excellent organizational skills.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Alberta Health Services systems, processes and familiarity with AHS Medical Staff bylaws/rules. Experience in change management, forecasting modeling concepts, and continuous quality improvement processes. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team setting. Experience with risk analysis. Knowledge of legislation governing the health system including information and privacy Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, tight timelines and produce high quality deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Project Management qualification for example PMP would be an asset. Five to seven years related experience. Experience working with complex databases and the creation of custom, targeted reports. Experience pertaining to projects involving physician service delivery. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision. Experience in managing change at a systems level.
