Your Opportunity:
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is seeking a strategic and innovative leader to join our organization as Director, IT and Technology. Reporting to the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, this newly established leadership role will shape ALA’s technology vision and ensure technology investments support organizational priorities, service excellence, and long-term sustainability. As the senior leader responsible for ALA’s strategic IT function, you will serve as the key link between business needs and technology solutions, ensuring that digital and technology initiatives enable high-quality service delivery across the organization. You will lead the development of IT strategy, governance frameworks, and technology priorities while fostering strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and Health Shared Services. This is a unique opportunity to build and mature a strategic IT function within a newly evolving organization. You will influence enterprise-wide technology decisions, strengthen governance and accountability, and help position ALA for future growth and innovation. Working closely with executive leaders, you will identify opportunities to leverage technology, improve operational effectiveness, and support organizational transformation through modern, business-focused IT solutions. This position is eligible to work remotely in either the Calgary or Edmonton Zone.
Description:
The Director, IT and Technology is accountable for leading ALA’s technology strategy, business engagement, and shared services governance functions. Key responsibilities include: Developing and implementing ALA’s IT strategy, ensuring technology initiatives aligning with organizational goals and operational priorities. Serving as the primary liaison between business areas and technology service providers to ensure business requirements are effectively translated into technology solutions. Identifying, prioritizing, and advancing technology initiatives that support organizational growth, innovation, and service delivery excellence. Leading technology enablement initiatives and providing strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team on emerging technology opportunities and risks. Acting as the formal interface between ALA and Health Shared Services for technology service delivery. Establishing and monitoring governance frameworks, service level agreements, and performance expectations for technology services and vendors. Overseeing vendor relationships and shared service performance to ensure reliable, effective, and high-quality technology support. Leading and developing a small strategic team focused on IT business engagement, vendor management, and technology governance while fostering collaboration across the organization.

Master’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum seven years of progressive leadership experience in IT management, including significant experience within healthcare, public sector, or similarly complex organizations. Demonstrated expertise in IT strategy development, technology governance, and aligning technology investments with organizational priorities. Proven experience managing technology vendor relationships, service delivery agreements, and performance accountability frameworks. Experience establishing, leading, or transforming IT functions within evolving organizations.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Strong understanding of technology governance, business engagement, and shared services operating models. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and collaborate effectively with executive leaders, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers. Experience identifying, prioritizing, and implementing technology solutions that support operational excellence and organizational transformation. Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, develop, and lead high-performing teams. Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and change management skills. Ability to translate complex technology concepts into practical business solutions and recommendations for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in IT management or governance (e.g., ITIL, PMP, CGEIT, COBIT) or enterprise architecture. Experience developing healthcare IT strategies and digital health initiatives. Familiarity with Health Shared Services operating models and shared services governance. Experience within Alberta's healthcare system or other publicly funded healthcare environments. Knowledge of emerging technologies, cybersecurity principles, and IT service management best practices.
