Description:
As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) with ALTA Paramedic Health (APH), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, using basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and providing semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other transport vehicles, including non-emergent transport (NET) units, are properly stocked and equipped in accordance with APH standards. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry), with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The PCP role is physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must also be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, as well as bend, twist, side-carry up to 20 lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification. Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence (or equivalent), along with a five (5)-year driver abstract dated within six (6) months prior to commencing work, with no more than six (6) demerits. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate from Lifemark, is required for candidates who do not currently hold a clinical position within ALTA Paramedic Health (APH) (including VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, and Community Paramedic roles). The F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of application. ALTA Paramedic Health (APH) may verify results with Lifemark to confirm successful completion. Preferred Qualifications:Preference is given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset. Applicants must provide proof of program completion for any post-secondary education or training at the time of application for it to be considered during the selection process.
