Polysomnographic Technologist
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the unit manager and under the supervision of the Sleep lab supervisor, the ACH Polysomnography Technologist (PSG Tech) performs sleep studies on children who are experiencing a variety of sleep disorders. They will be responsible for performing and scoring PSG sleep studies, both diagnostic and treatment, on children in an outpatient environment. You will need to show proficiency in the assessment and titration of ventilator settings in multiple modes of assisted ventilation. The PSG Tech observes and notes clinical phenomena occurring during testing, recognizes and eliminates causes of biological artifacts, operates computers for acquisition, and inputs data information accurately. You must be able to recognize the need for oxygen administration and possess the ability to set up and titrate oxygen and activate emergency processes if required. The PSG Tech must be able to assess and communicate concerns related to all polysomnographic, respiratory effort, oximetry, electrodes, sensors, CPAP/Bilevel, and other equipment, and notify the supervisor of needed repairs. As the Polysomnographic Technologist, you will help to provide professional, compassionate respiratory therapy care to infants, children, youth and their families serving as a clinical expertise on all aspects of respiratory care. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated with great communication and patient care skills. Through previous work experiences, you will have demonstrated a positive attitude and initiative with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Description:
As a Polysomnographic Technologist, you will perform polysomnographic sleep studies with pediatric and/or adult clients/patients who are experiencing a variety of sleep disorders. You will conduct transcutaneous monitoring (arterial blood gases) and other therapeutic interventions. You will also educate clients/patients and family on sleep disorders and the use, cleaning, and maintenance of sleep related equipment and coordinate funding options for patients and families referring them to the appropriate resources. You will calibrate a variety of equipment such as oximeters, multi-channel recorders, electro and spectrographic recorder; provide ongoing technical support for equipment including phone consultations and troubleshoot specialized equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP.

Active or eligible for registration with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT); or with the applicable Alberta regulatory college for the professions of, but not limited to Respiratory Therapist, Electroneurophysiology Technologist, Electroencephalography Technologist; Registered Nurse; or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Additional Required Qualifications:BCLS-HCP. Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) OR eligibility to write the BRPT exam within 1 year. Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA). One year experience within the past 5 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in a tertiary pediatric critical care facility.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in a pediatric sleep lab. ACH Critical Care experience (PICU, NICU, IP, ED). Experience with a variety of critical care and home care ventilators as well as various ventilation modes. AIW or equivalent Quality improvement training. Member of a multidisciplinary committee within the past 2 years.
